Contractor locks Govt school

POONCH, Feb 16: In a surprising act, a private contractor has locked a Govt school as the concerned Education authorities failed to clear his payment.
This happened at village Sher Shah Dakki in Mankote zone of Mendhar where local contractor Sher Alam has put a lock at the main gate of Govt Primary School at the same village. This school is allegedly lying closed for the last four days while the local Education authorities have failed to intervene and restore the routine education of the village children.
The villagers disclosed that contractor Sher Alam constructed Toilet complex in the school premises with the cost of Rs 1.09 lakh. He claimed that concerned Headmaster has not cleared is pending payment of Rs 29,000 on the plea that he has not received the amount from the higher authorities. This amount pertains to the financial year 2013-14.
After a tiff with the I/C Headmaster of the School Zameel Khan, the contractor Sher Alam put a lock on the school. The village Panchayat members asked the Headmaster and contractor to resolve their issue and avoid punishing the village children.
ZEO Mankote Iqbal Singh when contacted said that he was not aware of the matter. Mr Singh said that he would hold inquiry into the matter as he has recently taken over the charge. He said that it is criminal act on the part of contractor and department would also take action against the Headmaster.
