Assets of all ex-Ministers, bureaucrats be evaluated: Vakil

JAMMU, Feb 17: Former Minister  Abdul Gani Vakil  has appealed the  Governor N N Vohra to take all stringent and deterrent measures to curb the menace of corruption in the State as it is the  root cause of the backwardness, political instability and alienation in the State and same needs to be tackled seriously with iron hand, otherwise situation in J&K will never see a change on any front.
Making an appeal to Mr Vohra, Vakil said that a number of former Ministers raised disproportionate wealth and assets during their respective stints through intentional corrupt practices and also succeeded to impede inquiries and investigations besides insulated themselves from every type of legal action. He demanded that the assets of all ex-Ministers, bureaucrats and middle level officers be evaluated and disproportionate assets raised by such corrupt elements be confiscated without any inordinate delay.
While lauding the role of Vigilance and other anti- graft organizations for working tireless to weed out corruption, Vakil said that all such organizations needs be empowered and strengthened to the extent that they don’t face any legal or administrative hiccups in tackling high profile corruption and bribery cases.
Mr Vakil appealed the Governor to order re-investigation and a time bound probe in all infamous scams and embezzlements that were reported during last decade in the State and expedite the disposal of all corruption cases pending for years in State. He also appealed the Governor to constitute a team of legal experts who can pursue corruption cases pending in various Courts, Accountability Commission or Vigilance Organization in the State.
