NEW DELHI, Feb 18:
A group of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs today held a meeting with Northern Railway officials to discuss rail related issues ahead of Railway Budget.
The MPs highlighted specific demands from the general public with regard to railway development in their regions, the construction of road overbridges, limited height subways eliminating level crossings and additional stoppages of trains in their respective areas.
Lok Sabha MP from Ladakh Thupstan Chhewang, Jammu MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Jallandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary alongwith Rajya Sabha MP from Himachal Pradesh Bimla Kashyap Sood and Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Avinash Rai Khanna participated in the meeting with Northern Railway General Manager AK Puthia along with several senior railway officials.
The MPs also sought development of stations and suggested various measures to further improve amenities for passengers, according to a senior Northern Railway official.
Railways assured them that these demanded would be studied on priority and considered accordingly.
Northern Railway held a series of meeting with MPs on the directives of Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to take first-hand account of people’s problems in each division of the zone. (PTI)
