KATRA, Feb 19: Two- day advance workshop on “Applications of Flow Cytometry in Biomedical Research” concluded today in the School of Biotechnology, SMVDU Katra.
Dr Rakesh Kumar and Dr Narendra K Bairwa from School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, in association with M/s BD Biosciences, organized the workshop. The focus of the workshop was to give hands-on training to the students and faculty on the latest technology in the field of flow cytometery.
Flow cytometry is a laser-based, biophysical technology employed in cell counting, cell sorting, biomarker detection and protein engineering. Flow cytometry is routinely used in the diagnosis of health disorders, especially blood cancers, but has many other applications in basic research, clinical practice and clinical trials. It allows simultaneous multiparametric analysis of the physical and chemical characteristics of up to thousands of particles per second. Special flowcytometer was shipped to SMVDU from Delhi for the training purpose.
Fifty delegates participated in the workshop, which included faculty from Schools of Biotechnology, and scholars from School of Biotechnology. The workshop started with detailed lectures by Dr Vinay Gupta, Application Scientist, BD biosciences. Hands-on training was also provided on flowcytometer to the scholars of the department.
The Organizer of the workshop, Dr Rakesh Kumar, presented vote of thanks.
