Maiden ‘Laadli Diwas’ held at Kathua

KATHUA, Feb 19: Continuing with its endeavor to have a positive perception towards girl child, District Administration under its PAHAL initiative today observed maiden ‘Laadli Diwas’ with great zeal and enthusiasm all across the district today.
The main event was organized at Billawar where series of new activities were launched to mark the inaugural Laadli Diwas which was witnessed by a gathering of over 7000 people at historic Ram Leela ground. Launching of women Health Helpline Number, distribution of Laadli Beti passbooks and distribution of baby kits were highlights of the event.
The launching of Laadli Diwas was witnessed by MLA Billawar Dr Nirmal Singh and Deputy Commissioner Kathua Ramesh Kumar.
MLA Billawar Dr Nirmal Singh termed sex determination as menace against the rich tradition of Indian value system which value women. He appreciated district administration for taking innovative steps to check this menace and improve the child sex ratio in the district.
DC Kathua while speaking on the occasion said that this is high time that every individual shall come forward for disseminating the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao as Kathua is among 100 districts having adverse child sex ratio. He said district administration has initiated PAHAL: Ek Kadam Naari Samman Ki Aur, a dedicated mission mode programme to increase the child sex ratio by educating every stakeholder of the society.
The DC also appealed people to keep a vigil on the practice of sex determination and report any such incident to curb the biased mindset against girl child. He said the provision of punishment and penalty is incorporated in PC& PNDT act and it’s the duty of every individual to ensure its enforceability.
During the event a dedicated Women Health Helpline Number 18001807103 was also launched under which any female can avail medical help from Gynecologist on every Saturday from 10AM to 12 noon and FMPHW on other week days through phone call. Baby kits along with Laadli Beti passbooks were distributed among newborn girl child. Cash prize was also conferred upon the ASHA worker and mother of fully immunized girl child. Outstanding female performers in the field of education and sports of sub division Billawar were also felicitated during the event.
AC (UT) Rahul Yadav, Nodal Officer PO ICDS (Nodal Officer for Laadli Diwas ) Rajinder Singh, SDM Billawar R.S Charak, ACD Kathua, CMO Kathua, CEO Kathua and district officers were also present on the occasion.
