Sham lays foundation stone of tubewell

JAMMU, Sept 10: Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma laid foundation stone of deep drill tubewell at village Bherda Kalan, in tehsil Akhnoor to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.25 crore, here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Sharma said that faster development of rural and hilly areas was on the top priority of the development agenda of the Government. He said that upgradation of road network, education, power, irrigation, PHE and particularly health sector has been given top priority by the Government.
He directed the officers to involve Panchs and Sarpanchs in the implementation of various schemes and work in close coordination with them so that proper development was ensured. He also appealed the people to extend full cooperation to the Government agencies for better and effective implementation of development programmes. He asked the executing agencies to complete the tubewell within the stipulated time frame and ensure use of quality material in the construction works.
The Minister said that on the commissioning of the tubewell, a population of 5000 souls of the village and its adjoining areas would be benefitted. He asked the PHE authorities to lay drinking water supply pipes in the uncovered areas and urged the people to use drinking water judiciously because due to global warming the ground water table is decreasing day by day.
The Minister directed the concerned authorities to upgrade lanes and drains of the village and also take up conservation works on local ponds. On the demand of the public for construction of a community hall in the village, the Minister asked the concerned department to prepare a comprehensive plan for this purpose.
The Minister also announced that another deep drill tubewell will be constructed at Maira-Mandrian to overcome the water scarcity .
