JAMMU, Feb 22: Paying tributes to Army and CRPF martyrs of Pampore encounter, State NCP president and former Minister Thakur Randhir Singh has suggested that Udhampur Railway Station should be named after local brave heart Capt Tushar Mahajan and Pampore Railway Station be named after Capt. Pawan Kumar who gave their today for our Tommorow.
In a statement, Mr Singh alleged that the alleged nexus between politicians and bureaucrats was responsible for ignoring the sacrifices made by our bravehearts and announcements made on their martyrdom immediately. He drew attention towards poor maintenance of the Balidan Stambh at Jammu, which has been build by Ministry of Defence and handed over to the State Government.
We are shocked to see the poor condition of newly built Balidan Stambh, a suitable memorial in honour of our brave soldiers who laid down their lives in 1962, 1965, 1972 and Kargil. The civil Government has failed to maintain the memorial of jawans,” he said and demanded that Balidan Stambh should be taken back by the Army for its upkeep and better administration so that people all over the country may come and pay their homage to the heroes who had sacrificed their lives in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Singh also condemned the Tourism Department for not including this important monument in the Tourist map.  “I had earlier written to A K Antony, than Defence Minister as well as the Chief of Army Staff that Balidan Stambh should be taken back by the Army for its upkeep and better administration and also include names of the soldiers who sacrificing their lives during ongoing proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir but my suggestion was turned down,” he added.
The NCP leader also appealed Prime Minister Narendera Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar and Home Minister Rajnath Singh that such Balidan Stambhs should be built in each State Capital and national Capital so that people, including foreign dignitaries may visit the same.
