Farooq, Omar others pay tributes to Sheikh Nazir

SRINAGAR, Feb 23: National Conference paid glowing tributes to veteran NC leader and former general secretary,  Sheikh Nazir Ahmed on his first death anniversary.
Party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and working president  Omar Abdullah, highlighted Sheikh Nazir Ahmed’s unparalleled contribution to the party and termed him as a statesman who stood in  defence of  his principles till his last breath. Congregation Fateha Khwani was held today at Sheikh Nazir’s  ancestral graveyard at Soura, followed by a party function at NC headquarters, Nawa-e-Subha complex. Commemorative functions were also organized across the State in all the three regions.
“Sheikh Nazir was a courageous man  who served the people and his party without any self-seeking ambitions.  He never aspired for a position of power in the Government, nor did he advance any personal goals. He always maintained a close rapport with the party workers and remained accessible to them even when his health was not so good. Mr Nazir  stood by his principles till his last breath and never compromised on his ideology and views. He was an honest and hardworking leader who epitomized simplicity in his personal life. On his first death anniversary, we salute Nazir Sahib’s legacy and pay glowing tributes to him”, NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah said.
Omar Abdullah said, “Nazir Sahib’s demise created a vacuum, not only within National Conference but also in the State’s polity that will be very hard to fill. His service towards his people remained the focal point of his life and he devoted his entire life in serving the party. Nazir Sahib’s honesty and steadfastness continues to inspire the rank and file of the party and we will all carry forward his legacy and struggle by serving our people.”
NC general secretary Ali Mohd Sagar described Sheikh Nazir as a tall statesman and an exemplary and visionary leader who served his State and its people without any personal interests.  He said Mr Nazir never accumulated property or wealth and never furthered his own interests or those of  his kith and kin. His biggest asset was the love and affection of the people for him and he was at one with party workers all his life.
His doors were always open for all and  he served this party with his heart and soul.
Many party functionaries, legislators including NC additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, NC chief spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu and YNC Provincial president Salman Ali Sagar also paid glowing tributes to Sheikh Nazir.
