JAMMU, Feb 24: The activists of CPI (M) and CPI today held protest demonstration against NDA Government, demanding release of detained JNU students and withdrawal of cases against them.
The workers of both the parties assembled near Press Club of Jammu and started protest against mounting attacks against the JNU students by Delhi Police under the directions of BJP led Government. The protesters were shouting slogans against the alleged hate campaign launched by RSS targeting some students and Left parties. They alleged that BJP wants to capture universities for their vested interests. They alleged that BJP functionaries are openly threatening democracy and the right to debate and dissent thereby weakening the very foundations of our constitutional rights.
The protesters were demanding immediate release of all JNU students arrested, withdrawal of the cases of sedition against students and stop harassment of Kashmiri students studying in different universities.
The organizers wanted to take the procession in the city but police prevented them. The CPI and CPI(M) leaders Abdul Rehman Takroo and Sham Prasad Kesar addressed the protesters and pledged to carry forward the message of brotherhood and tolerance in whole of the State.
Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, CPI (M) leader and MLA while addressing the rally underlined the necessity of broader mobilization against the offensive of RSS and its other affiliates against the voices of debate, discussion and dissent. He said whatever the BJP led Govt is doing is fraught with serious consequences.
