JAMMU, Feb 27: All Villag-ers Joint Action Committee, tehsil Akhnoor and Jourian submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu rergarding objection against notification for SRO 462 regarding acquisition of land for carrying out field firing and artillery practice by the Army in their area.
Through memorandum, Lakhbir Singh, President of the Committee and Kaka Ram, general secretary, apprised DC Jammu that as per SRO, the agriculture lands falling under Tehsil Akhnoor, Chowki Choura and Jourian have been proposed to be acquired for the Army firing practice or other causes. But this area is densely populated with poor and low waged labours and fully dependent on agriculture cultivation activities including feeding of bovine animals, goats and poultry farming and permanently residing since origin of the area, they added.
They also informed DC that the people of these areas have already suffered a lot during partition of 1947, 1965 and 1971 Indo Pak wars and day-to-day firing on border and terrorist activities. Three times uprooted made refugees have suffered a loss of agriculture production, human and animal causalities and now finally have settled with their newly reacquired moveable and immovable properties in their respective villages and areas, they said, adding that but by this move of Government through this SRO the public is in trauma and shock. All villagers have decided not to leave their areas under any Government pressure or whatsoever it is, they stated.
On behalf of people, they appealed to DC that the areas mentioned under SRO should be excluded and SRO should be canceled to prevent loss of life and property of the people.
