SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Top All India Congress Committee (AICC) leaders, Moti Lal Vora, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni reviewed the ongoing membership drive of the party and also organizational affairs in a meeting held here today.
Reviewing the organizational affairs of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee, the top leaders of AICC paid whirlwind visit to Srinagar and also the Party headquarters at MA Road, Srinagar to take stock of party matters and the activities being carried out by J&K PCC including membership drive.
The team was headed by AICC Treasuer Moti Lal Vora while Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Gulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni AICC general secretary and incharge party affairs in J&K also accompanied.
The high level meeting was chaired by Moti Lal Vora to assess the ongoing Party level activities in the State and the steps taken for further strengthening the Party at the grassroot level. In the meeting, the Party’s membership drive that was kick started in June 2015 was reviewed and the target set with regard to enrolling of primary members, active members and delegates were also discussed, threadbare.
Briefing the meeting about the activities undertaken by the Party, JKPCC chief GA Mir asserted that PCC has set a target of enrolling 60 thousand active members which means enrollment of 15 lakhs primary members during the ongoing membership drive. He apprised the meeting that, so far, PCC has been able to enroll 40,000 active members against 60,000 set as target, by that way PCC has achieved the target of enrolling 15,000, delegates in phase one, which is a matter of enormous pleasure for the party.
Referring to the massive political activities by PCC across the State, PCC chief informed the AICC leaders that since March 2015, PCC has organized 198 public meetings across the State, while as Youth Congress has organized 160 conferences and public meetings, Mahila Congress 60 conferences, INTUC 20 seminar and meetings, NSUI 20 protests and demonstrations across the State.
Describing the role played by Congress Party in the State Legislature as impressive and laudable PCC chief briefed AICC team that Congress Party being the constructive opposition in the State, played a very pivotal role by way of debating and highlighting the issues pertaining to State and problems confronting people for their resolution. The role played by Congress Party in both houses was highly appreciated by the people in all the three regions, he briefed.
AICC leaders expressed satisfaction over the activities and role being played by PCC in the State and felt confident that PCC under the dynamic leadership of Mir would remain steadfast in strengthening the organization.
