Leh to host 5th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit

LEH, Mar 1: Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) has decided to host the 5th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit for first time in Leh.
The decision was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh, Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, which was also attended by Fantry Mein Jaswal, Chairperson, Sustainable Development Forum Arunachal Pradesh and Mridula Paul, Programme Director Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI) here.
With the unanimous consent of all the stakeholders of Leh including district administration, the meeting in one voice decided to become permanent member of IMI and also decided to host the forthcoming 5th SMDS in Leh.
CEC Dr Dawa said that it will be a great platform and opportunity to host forthcoming SMDS here, adding that such summits will not only educate people worldwide about the fragile ecosystem of Ladakh but will highlight the peculiar climatic conditions and different needs of Ladkah region effectively. Stressing on the importance of this summit, he urged all the stakeholders to be ready in all respects and also asked for their cooperation and suggestion in making this summit a grand success.
Executive Councilor for Works Dorjey Mutup, Executive Councilor for Animal and Sheep Mumtaz Hussain, Deputy Commissioner, Leh Parasanna Ramasawamy G, Councilors of LAHDC, Leh, SSP, Leh Dr Sunil Gupta, Project Director LREDA Leh Jigmet Takpa, Padmashri Morup Namgyal, Hero Punchok Ladakhi, President PDP, Leh Tashi Gyaltsan and heads and representatives of various research based agencies and NGOs working in Leh were present in the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions also.
DC Leh Parasanna Ramasawamy G suggested to organize this summit after Ladkah Festival (September/ October) and for constituting Steering Committee for the purpose a meeting will be convened in the second week of March 2016.
