Karthi row: RS adjourned till noon

NEW DELHI :  The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice in Zero Hour as AIADMK members continued to disrupt proceedings to press their demand for a CBI probe into the money laundering row by former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karthi.
The House was adjourned twice — first till 1122 hrs and then till 1200 hrs.  Soon after the House met for the day, AIADMK members protested over the issue and demanded that a discussion be held over the row.  Deputy Chairman P J Kurien tried to pacify them. He said, “You can give a proper notice and the same would be examined by honourable Chairman as per rules of the House. If honourable Chairman allows discussion, he has no objection.” Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also tried to clarify the government’s stand but all went in vain.  This exasperated Congress members, who rise on their feet. Referring to uproarious behaviour of AIADMK members, Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the protest was government-sponsored. He told AIADMK members, “Don’t come in between.” Thereafter, Prof Kurien adjourned the House till 1122 hrs. (AGENCIES)
