Govt committees to implement Jal Kranti Abhiyan in J&K

JAMMU, Mar 3: To implement `Jal Kranti Abhiyan’ (JKA) in Jammu and Kashmir,   the State Government has accorded sanction for constitution of Committees on different level from top to bottom.
There will be State level, district level, block level and village level committees to consolidate the information and management of water conservation through holistic and integrated approach.
The State level committee, headed by Administrative Secretary PHE, Irrigation and flood Control, shall provide convergent approach in Jal Gram, coordinate and monitor activities of Jal Gram in entire State and indicate funding from concerned departments related to water resources for taking up works.
The role of district level committee, headed by concerned Deputy Commissioner, shall be to identify the Jal Gram, monitor the progress on monthly basis, appraise the plans and project reports of the activities and implement advocacy in water conservation through convergent method.
Similarly, the block level committee will be headed by Block Development Officer with the role of implementation of works, monitoring of works, advocacy of water conservation in local schools/colleges and holding monthly meetings.
The village level committee will be headed by the Gram Pradhan/Sarpanch and shall be comprising two teachers from local educational institutions, Field Man from Horticulture Development for the concerned village, Works Supervisor from PHE Department, representatives from Water User Association, Women Self Help Group, VLW and Asha worker/Anganwari worker as members. Headmaster of the local school shall be Member Secretary of the village level committee, which shall provide inputs for formation of the Integrated Water Security Plan, implementation and monitoring of works, advocacy of water conservation in the village and holding fortnightly meetings.
