JAMMU, Mar 5: One day convention of Nirman Mazdoor Union J&K, was held at Jammu, which was attended by a large number of construction workers from across the State and presided over by Nissar Kamrazi.
While addressing the convention, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, president CITU, J&K and MLA, said that working class in general and construction workers in particular are under attack because of disastrous policies of Modi Government. “There is nothing except tall claims, long promises and rhetoric to offer to this deprived section of our population,” he alleged and added that the Central law, Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service Act, 1996, which was adopted here in the Assembly in 2008, is not being implemented properly.
“Those working in projects, roads, buildings and other areas are not being treated as workers. Their legitimate demand for minimum wages of Rs 15000/- per month is not being considered. As and when there is any labour dispute, the administration sides with the management,” Mr Tarigami alleged and appealed the working class, different unions and platforms to come forward and initiate united struggles in order to get genuine demands of the workers met.
Comrade Debanjan Chakraborti, general secretary, Construction Workers Federation of India (CWFI), stressed that J&K Nirman Mazdoor Union should organize struggle for construction of one room flats for construction workers on State land; establishment of skill development training institutes, each at Srinagar and Jammu to impart skilled training to the workers and their families out of their own funds.
