Shutdown in Old City, Tral

Srinagar, Mar 5: Shutdown amid a protest was observed by shopkeepers in parts of Old City against the alleged highhandedness of police while the strike continued in Tral sub-district of South Kashmir against the killings of three militants.
All the shops in Nowhatta, Jamia Market, Gojwara and its adjoining areas of Old City were closed in protest against the alleged police action against the local shopkeepers on Friday.
The shopkeepers alleged that on the pretext of acting against the stone-throwers police fired pellets towards a salesman of a shop in Gojwara resulting in injuries to him. “The police highhandedness in the garb of chasing stone-throwers every Friday has become a routine,” they alleged.
Meanwhile, the strike in Tral township of South Kashmir entered third day today against killing of three local Hizbul Mujahideen militants in a gunfight with security forces. However, the life in neighbouring Awantipora town returned to normal and people resumed their routine commercial activities.
