GB Pant Hospital starts Paediatric Nephrology services

SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Valley’s lone paediatric hospital, GB Pant is starting Paediatric Nephrology in Out Patient Department (OPD) services from March 16 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, an official said here.
The official said this is a step further in expanding specialty paediatric services in the hospital. Dr Mohammad Ashraf, M.D Paediatrics, Fellowship Paediatric Nephrology from AIIMS, New Delhi is heading the Paediatric Nephrology unit of the hospital, he said.
“Moreover, Paediatric Opthalmology is operational in the hospital and various complicated procedures are being performed on children. The Paediatric Opthalmological unit is being expanded to handle the most complicated paediatric opthalmological cases in future. These services are first of its kind in the J&K State,” the official said.
Earlier the hospital has started peritoneal dialysis in the hospital and more than 15 patients have been salvaged within the past 2 months, he said. “A full fleded dialysis unit is being installed in the hospital and for which space has already been earmarked,” said the official.
The hospital also envisages to soon have Paediatric Surgeries in the hospital for which a high level meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Secretary, HME and all the arrangements for setting up the said unit has been finalized.
Meanwhile, work on the establishment of licensed state of art blood bank along with lab and microbiology division has been completed and is being commissioned very soon. “Steps are being taken to set up Thalasemia Centre in G.B. Pant Hospital as earlier there was only one Thalasemia centre in Jammu for the whole state,” said Medical Superintendent of the GB Pant.
