Karvan-e-Aman bus to PoK cancelled due to landslides

SRINAGAR :  The scheduled travel of Karwan-e-Aman, the cross Line of Control  peace bus between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, has been cancelled  today due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains across the Line of Control (LoC). The weekly cross-LoC bus will not operate because of landslides on PoK side, official sources said.
However, he said, from Srinagar to Aman setu, peace bridge on this side of the LoC in Uri sector, the road was clear. They said an information was received from PoK authorities informing about the landslides.
Later, it was agreed from both sides to cancel the bus service and accordingly all those who were scheduled to travel in the bus have been informed, they said.
The cross-LoC service has helped thousands of families, separated due to partition in 1947, to meet each other since the first bus was flagged on April 7, 2005 after India and Pakistan authorities agreed to allow travel of state subjects from both sides on ” Travel Permits” instead of International passports.
However, only state subjects, who had relatives on either side of the LoC, can travel in the bus after their names are cleared by intelligence agencies of both the countries. (AGENCIES)
