SRINAGAR, Mar 15: Moderate Hurriyat Conference today welcomed the proposed meeting between Indian and Pakistani External Affairs Ministers, Sushma Swaraj and Sartaj Aziz, that is scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the SAARC ministerial meeting in Nepal on March 17.
A Hurriyat spokesman said such “bold political initiatives” is the only way for moving forward with the two countries.
The spokesman while stressing that “putting the resolution of Kashmir issue on the back burner may only create mistrust and acrimony” between the two countries and vitiate the dialogue process said the political leadership of the two countries should act with statesmanship and vision.
Terming Kashmir as the core issue, the spokesman said sidelining Kashmir and concentrating on other issues between the two countries was not going to take the dialogue process anywhere.
Hoping that talks between the External Affairs Ministers of the two countries in Nepal would prove to be fruitful, the Hurriyat said there was a need to take forward the dialogue process with consistency and commitment to create trust and confidence necessary for the resolution of issues.
