Governor sets April 15 deadline for report on casual workers

JAMMU, Mar 16: On the directions of Governor N N Vohra, the State Government has constituted a High Level Committee to look into the financial, legal, administrative and other problems which may relate to the regularization of casual workers. The Committee will work out an appropriate policy in this regard.
The Committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, comprises Secretaries of the Home, Finance, General Administration Department, Law Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Department and Director (Codes) is its Member Secretary.
The Governor has directed the Chief Secretary to finalise the Committee’s report by April 15.
It is pertinent to recall that the Governor has already directed that the process of regularization of eligible daily wagers and those engaged on contractual basis should be expedited and also directed that no fresh casual/seasonal labourer shall be allowed to be engaged by any Department or State owned PSU.
