Doctor booked for attempt to murder

SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Police have booked a doctor posted at SMHS for ‘attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy’ after an attendant of a patient complained that the accused allegedly removed oxygen mask and drip-set from the body of the patient in a ward.
Police said the incident has apparently happened because of the rivalry between the two doctors. Reports said that the two doctors had scuffle a week ago and today’s incident seems related to that.
Reports said a patient was operated by a doctor for removing hernia in emergency ward and then she was admitted to Ward 11 for further care.
“But another doctor came to the ward (on the behest of another doctor) and removed oxygen mask, drip-set from the patient, and also attempted to take away the medical file,” the complainant has said.
A police officer said a case under FIR number 16 under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) against the doctor after recording the statement of the attendant was registered.
Principal GMC Srinagar, Dr Kaisar said the administration has taken cognizance of the “grave issue” on their own though they have not received any complaint from the attendant.
“We have set up a high level committee on our own to investigate the issue and find the facts,” he said.
The internal inquiry team comprises of Administrator Associated hospitals, Rifat Arif, heads of departments of medicine, surgery, a professor of anesthesia. “We don’t want to take chance as it is a grave allegation,” the principal said.
