NEW DELHI, Mar 18:
Kargil War hero Colonel Diptanshu Choudhry hailing from West Bengal today joined the BJP and he will be the party’s candidate from Asansol South constituency in the upcoming State assembly polls.
Col Choudhry joined the BJP at the party headquarters here in presence of Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and BJP national secretary and West Bengal co-in-charge Siddharth Nath Singh.
Welcoming Col Choudhry into the party, Mr Nadda said the party has decided to field Col Choudhry from Asansol South for the West Bengal Assembly polls.
He said Col Choudhry was posted in Kargil from first day to the last day of the war. On the occasion, Col Rathore said Col Choudhry is Indian sportsman and was in Indian Army.
BJP yesterday released its second list of 194 candidates for ensuing West Bengal assembly polls, prominent among which were Mahabharata serial fame Roopa Ganguly and party’s former State youth wing president Amitabh Roy.
Earlier, on March 9, the party released its first list of 52 candidates for the major electoral fray. The list included Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew, who was given ticket from Bhabanipur where he will be pitted against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. (UNI)
