HBET distributes Rs 15 lakh to 550 children

JAMMU, Mar 19: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) today distributed scholarships worth Rs 15 lakh to 550 children (including 85 girls) belonging to the economically weakest section of Jammu’s rural and border areas.
The beneficiaries, many of whom travelled from distant villages of Jourian, Arnia, Kanachak, Korejagir, Chakrali, Kandyal, Jerda, Sunderbani, Surinsar and Bishnah received their scholarships amidst a proud audience of family members, school principals, teachers, donors and leading industrialists.
The scholarships were distributed by chief guest, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commissioner Jammu. He also offered them words of encouragement and emphasized the need to make the best use of the opportunity provided by HBET.
Reporting on the activities of the Trust, the Managing Trustee informed the gathering that many HBET students are now contributing to society as successful professionals – engineers, teachers, PhDs, architects and nurses. Bhalla also announced that students desirous of pursuing Nursing can apply with a request to the Trust.
The Trust organizes various grassroots activities like mentorship program, summer camps, selection and evaluation tests, reward program and medical assistance to the students and their families, regularly. Counseling sessions for children and parents are also organized with the help of Jammu University counselors.
The function concluded with the Preeti Bhoj, where the traditional Dogri meal was served to all the participants and invitees.
