Awareness camp for unorganized labourers held

JAMMU, Mar 19: An awareness camp for unorganized labourers and workers was organized today at conference hall, here at Residency Road.
The camp was attended by para legal volunteers of Jammu and Samba district and representatives of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, Marble Workers’ Union, Vishwakarma Labour Union and officials of Labour Department.
During the camp, issues related to unorganized workers, Social Security Act 2008 and other labour laws were raked up and in order to redress the problems of the labour of unorganized sector, various measures were suggested.
A detailed discussion was held over the BOCW Act and other welfare schemes related to labour engaged in organized sector. Besides, the labourers were suggested to make their Labour Cards at the earliest so that they can reap the benefits of various schemes of Labour Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu, apprised the participants about the steps taken up by the department for redressing the grievances of the labourers.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, Jammu, while addressing the gathering, said that that the department is making all efforts to extend the benefits of labour laws to unorganized labour community coming under its purview.
