World Oral Health Day observed

JAMMU, Mar 20: On the occasion of Oral Health Day, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu on today organized an awareness camp on ‘oral awareness’ for the children suffering with hemophilic disorder.
Children along with their patients were made aware about the importance of dental care especially those with inherited bleeding disorders.
Free check-up was conducted for the children wherein senior doctors of the hospital under the supervision of Head, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department Dr Parveen Akhter Lone, who treated them and prescribed suitable medicines.
On the occasion, it was also decided that free dental check will he held every six months for hemophilic patients in the dental hospital, Jammu.
Dr Parveen lone while delivering a lecture emphasized on prevention of dental problems & said, “It must be remembered that for patients with hemophilia, prevention of dental diseases is better, cheaper and safer than the treatment”.
“ The people who have bleeding disorders should be taught from an early age to understand the importance of taking good care of their teeth and gums to prevent the need for invasive procedures which would require pre-treatment with expensive medication as well as longer recovery periods”.
She said: “the children, “The children, especially suffering with hemophilic disorder should go for regular dental follow up. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and brush gently so that you do not damage your gums. Clean your teeth and with dental floss at least once a day. Do not eat too much candy or desserts that are high in sugar and stick to your teeth”.
Children were also presented gifts on the occasion. HoD Oral Medicine and Radiology Department Dr Satvinder Singh and Dr Roopav Magotra supervised the free check up.
The function was held in collaboration with Hemophilia Society Jammu.
President Hemophilia Society Jammu, Rohit Jandial, secretary Jagdish Sharma, also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Varun, Dr Wakil, Dr Avnaeet, Dr Tabassum, Dr Jehangir, Dr Ambica, Dr Vijay, Dr Girish Gupta and Dr Vipasana. Were also part of camp, Dr Sunitapuri Medical Superintendent IGGDC & Dr Bhushaan Singh also attended.
