The words are self-explanatory and eloquently reveal that they (women) aren’t so powered, as deserve. Since the dawn of the civilisation, they enjoyed supreme position in the society. The episodes of Ramayana and Mahabharta leave nothing hidden to explain how dishonour to them (womenhood) was considered a challenge to the whole kingdom and how great warriors were laid to ground and dynasties were sacrificed to protect their honour. Even now, their contribution in the society is unique. They stand in queue of doctors, engineers, academicians, lawyers, military officers and social reformers. But moral turpitude spread in the society has harmed them immensely. It goes without saying that they stand exposed to indignation and humiliation.
Their security and safety always pose a question mark. Although, the Govts have done every thing in this regard, yet even the stray cases have shaken the backbone of the society in the recent past. Politically too, they are at disadvantage. 33 percent reservation in political bodies, as considered to be given to them also stands unmaterialised due to political rivalries. If the slogan Beti Bachao Beti Pahdao needs to be translated in practice, extension of equal opportunities, is of paramount significance for their upliftment.
