JAMMU, Mar 30: Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Pawan Kotwal today chaired a meeting to review the progress of work on Municipal Corporation’s projects for Solid Waste Management System (SWMS) and Modern Slaughter House for Jammu division.
In order to ensure proper disposal of solid waste of the city spread over 115 sq km and inhabited by 15 lakh people, generating nearly 400 tonnes of solid waste daily, the JMC has identified land at Kot Bhalwal for the new Solid Waste Management Project.
The meeting was informed that the plant will be pollution free and will carry modern technology for proper segregation and recycling of the waste. The project will have no spill over thereby leading to no negative extremities. The project plan is awaiting Environmental Impact Assessment Report and approval from Union Ministry of Environment, the meeting was told.
Dr. Kotwal also received brief about the up gradation of two slaughter houses.
