JAMMU, Mar 31: Son of the soil Inspector General (IG), Border Security Force (BSF), Frontier HQ Jammu, Rakesh Sharma superannuated from service today after more than 32 years of distinguish service to the Nation and BSF.
He commanded one of the most sensitive Jammu Frontier of the Force for almost 2 years during the crucial and highly tensed period of last decade.
Sharma had exhibited exceptional leadership qualities during the intense cross border firing from Pakistan and always led the BSF troops from the front. His strategic planning and execution of same on ground, forced the Pak Rangers to stop their menace and come on table for talk.
Under his benevolence command and leadership, Frontier Jammu won all the Five Force level prestigious trophies.
During his 32 years’ service in BSF, Rakesh Sharma, a native of Jammu has served almost all the theatres of the Force including high altitude area in Kargil Sector, Doda District and Kashmir Valley during peak militancy, deserts of Rajasthan, jungles of North-East, prestigious Training Institutions of the Force and staff officers at various positions. He has also served on deputation in NSG for five years and was instrumental in bringing large number of technical changes.
In recognition of his dedicated service to the Nation, he was awarded President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2006 and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2012, besides award of 07-DG BSF Commendation Roll, 1-DG NSG, 1 DG Police J&K and 1 Army Commander’s commendation.
He has been keen mountaineer in student age and during his initial service and also a keen Golfer.
Today, he called on the Governor, Chief Secretary and DG (P) J&K and expressed his sincere gratitude for all the supports and guidance to him and BSF during his period of command of Frontier Jammu.
His wife Pratibha Sharma being ex-officio President of the Frontier BSF Wives Welfare Association, Jammu was instrumental in planning and executing various welfare activities for the BSF families in the Frontier.
On the occasion of his superannuation, BSF Officers and Men of Frontier Jammu organized various functions to bid farewell to their beloved commander Rakesh Sharma and his wife.
