UDHAMPUR, Mar 31: Notwithstanding an assurance by the Chief Secretary to consider their demand, the agitating people of Manthal continued their protest for the 7th consecutive day today, against opening of a wine shop in the area.
The agitating locals, both men and women, assembled on the road and staged a day long dharna there in support of their demand for immediate closure of the wine shop. They raised slogans in support of their demand and reiterated their resolve to continue the ongoing protest till the authorities order shifting of the shop from the area.
Pertinent to mention that Chief Secretary B R Sharma and DGP K Rajendra had yesterday visited the protesting people following a direction in this regard by the Governor N N Vohra. Even as the Chief Secretary assured to look into their demand, the protesting people refused to suspend their agitation till a formal order is issued for shifting the wine shop.
