Gulmarg PHC in shambles

Situated at a height of ten thousand feet above sea level the Gulmarg Public Health Centre presents a sordid story of abject apathy and irresponsibility of the Health Department. Owing to cold and snowy climatic conditions of the region, people usually suffer from respiratory problems and need medical care. Unfortunately, the PHC is nowhere even near the name of a Health Centre. It lacks even the basic equipment, qualified doctors and trained Para medical staff. Many people with orthopedic and bone fracture problems seek medical attendance in the Health Centre but there is nothing to offer them. ECG and X-Ray machines are either defunct or functioning only partially. X-Ray machine can perform X-Rays only of arms, knee and leg, but chest X-Rays cannot be performed even the X-Ray technician only performs duty for four days in a week and in his absence the machine remains defunct. There is no dentist though dental chair is available. Ironically, the PHC also lacks a four-by-four ambulance. Even electricity is not regularly supplied to the Health Centre and whatever is supplied cannot light more than a couple of bulbs.
We would appeal the Health Minister and concerned Administrative Secretary to divert his attention to this sordid situation of the Health Centre and order streamlining the administration and services for the people without waiting.
