JAMMU, Apr 5: The Electoral Registration Officer of 72- Gandhi Nagar Constituency has ordered deletion of 1492 electors belonging to Qasim Nagar area.
These electors were existing in the Assembly voter lists but were not permanent residents of J&K. The exercise was done on an input received by the District Election Authorities that several non-PRC people had managed to get their votes made in Assembly rolls in violation of the J&K Representation of People Act, 1957.
Based on the input, the election authorities followed the due procedure of giving show cause notice to around 1545 voters, 1492 out of whom were confirmed as illegal voters.
It is pertinent to mention that a person can hold a vote in JK Assembly rolls only if he is a State Subject of J&K. The DEO, Jammu has, meanwhile, ordered an inquiry to fix responsibility on the officials who included these people in the voter list in violation of rules.
