JAMMU, Apr 6: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali today convened a meeting with senior Government functionaries to discuss issues pertaining to number of Municipal Wards in Kargil.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, Rishpal Singh, Additional Secretary, GAD, Haris Ahmed Handoo, Assistant Director (P&S), H&UDD, Mohammad Iqbal, senior officers of Council Secretariat and a delegation of senior citizens of Kargil led by Mohammad Sadiq Zaman.
The delegation apprised the Chairman that in the year 2004 there were 16 notified municipal wards in Kargil which were reduced to 7 in the 2012 without holding any consultation with the people and representatives.
They said that the decision was taken on the basis of wrong population census-2011 in which the population of Kargil was shown as 4138 instead of 13236.
The Chairman directed the concerned officers to submit a detailed report regarding the issue to the concern quarters at the earliest for an appropriate action.
