SRINAGAR, Sept 14:  Dispelling the ‘rumors’ of joining ruling National Conference, the  six estranged legislators of Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) have said that there was no question of joining the ruling party.
“We are from a National Party and won’t at any point join any regional or National party”, former Union MOS and MLA Jammu West Prof Chaman Lal Gupta told KNS this evening after meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
He said that his meeting with Chief Minister was of normal nature and it shouldn’t be seen as a part of any off scene plot. “Every MLA has his own problems so do we, I discussed with CM my constituency problems and the Urban Local Bodies elections”, Gupta added.
The BJP leader said that their case of defying the party whip in the voting for MLCs last year was still under trial in court therefore they should not be seen out of their parent party, however, he made it clear that any decision regarding the matters on the floor of house should be left for the MLA himself to deicide.
“There are two types of parties, one is the organizational party and the second one is the legislature party. In the latter it is not the parent party but the Speaker who should have a say”, added Gupta.
He further said that in the forthcoming Assembly session, if the Government needed support form the six BJP legislators who are facing party action, they won’t accept any directives from anywhere but will listen to their own conscious. “Let the session begin and we will decide according to the situation.” The senior BJP leader replied when asked if his meeting with CM could be seen as a precursor of an on the floor alliance with the ruling combination of NC and Congress.
Quoting Chief Minster, Chaman Lal Gupta said that he (Omar) was in favour of holding local body elections in the month of December.
“CM said that December is the ideal time for holding such elections, because after that the season of activities starts for valley and they don’t want that to be hampered”, Gupta added.
A deputation of Six MLAs led by Prof. Gupta met Chief Minister today to apprise him about various problems of people. The other MLAs who accompanied Prof. Gupta are Jagdish Sapolia, Bharat Bhushan, Prof. Gharu Ram, Baldev Raj and Durga Dass.
While interacting with Chief Minister deputation of MLAs expressed concern over delaying of Civic body polls and reiterated for early elections. Prof. Gupta said that during the Panchayat elections three years ago 80% people turned out to cast their vote for empowerment of basic democracies. But even after three years Panchayats are not being empowered to work efficiently. Even more than three hundred sarpanchs and Panchs have resigned in protest. Prof. Gupta also apprised Chief Minister that MLAs are not even able to get the widow pension sanctioned in favour of deserving people. Moreso, Anganwari Centre could not be opened due to scarcity of funds. Prof. Gupta suggested that Government instead of depending on Center for the funds should have its own funds for social welfare schemes so that the poor will be benefited.
Commenting on Ministers performance, Prof Gupta Said, they are only working for their own constituencies and thus have become Constituency Ministers instead of State. Other Constituencies are being neglected which is a serious preposition. Referring to creation of Model Villages Gharu Ram said, “ It was promised that there will be a Model Village in every constituency but the Ministers at helm of affairs created model villages in their own constituencies only.
Bharat Bhushan also reminded CM that Polytechnic College was to be opened in his constituency as per the decision of District Development Board meeting, but nothing has been done in this regard so far.
MLAs also informed the CM that some mafia Police Officers are being thrust upon Jammuites in order to give boost to crime. These officers are always getting prize postings like that of SSPs of districts for their misdeeds whereas their actual place is jail. The group cited the examples of former SSP Jammu who is languishing in jail for his mafia links, Whereas Some other police officers who are hand in glove with mafia are still enjoying and misusing the power. These police officers instead of fighting crimes are creating crimes and criminals.
Mr Gupta said Chief Minister also assured that the Government will investigate the Police Mafia links and take appropriate action besides acting on other public interests matters and developmental activities being projected by them.
