JAMMU, Apr 8: Former Minister and senior vice president of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Sham Lal Sharma today alleged that BJP’s double standards stood exposed on the issue of NIT Srinagar.
Addressing meeting of Block Congress Committe meeting at Akhnoor today, Sham Lal alleged that PDP-BJP Government has again turned out to be a complete failure in all fronts, let it be the question of good governance or bringing peace to the Valley. Situations have only worsened from the day PDP-BJP Government has been formed and the state of affairs which have taken place recently in NIT Srinagar.
He expressed his unhappiness over the registration of an FIR against 20 innocent students thereby depriving them of their Fundamental Rights. This clearly shows that BJP has different standards for different institutions as for JNU they have showed one standard and for NIT the different one. The BJP has thus compromised with its ideology for their vested interests.
The Congress leader condemned the recent incident which had taken place in NIT Srinagar. He said the non-local students were mercilessly beaten up by the local police and the BJP-PDP Government is acting like a mute spectator. He also said that the anti- national elements who had gone underground have become very active and are indulging in anti- national activities.
Mr Sharma expressed his concern over the rising trend of anti-national activities. He further said those who are unfurling National flag and raising National slogans are being harassed and are living under the threat. The Government has utterly failed in providing security to these students. He said that students were brutally baton- charged in the campus whereas police clearly denies the fact and says “they were compelled to use mild force on the students trying to move out on the main road “.
During this meeting the present AYC president Akhnoor has been elevated and inducted in Block Congress Committee. In his place Naresh Kumar has been promoted as AYC president Akhnoor.
The prominent among those present in the meeting were Pranav Shagotra PYC president, Kuldeep Verma Ex -Vice Chairman OBC, Chetan Wanchoo State spokesperson PYC, Ram Swaroop, Deedar Hussain and Subash Langer.
