SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Recalling the contribution of Shayar-i-Kashmir Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Mehjoor in enriching the literary heritage of Kashmir, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar today said that Mehjoor’s poems were a spontaneous expression of change filled with the revolutionary zeal and a high sense of patriotic fervor.
The Minister was speaking at a function organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in connection with Mehjoor Day at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GGHSS), Kothibagh.
Mr Akhtar said that Mehjoor has described essence of Kashmiri culture and heritage through his poetry. These poems aroused the poor and downtrodden out of their centuries old slumber and inspired them to fight for their rights Conscious of the urgent need for progress and unity, he gave a new and cheerful call for national and cultural regeneration.
He stressed for making new generations aware about the poetry of great Kashmiri poets including Mehjoor. He asked the authorities of Education Department for reciting ‘Sahibo Sat Che Me Chani’ poem of Mehjoor during morning assembly in all the educational institutions. The Minister said that the government will introduce topics regarding culture and heritage of Kashmir in curriculum so that the students are made aware about our glorious ethos .
Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr Abdul Aziz Hajni said that Academy will organise more such programmes in educational institutions instead of Tagore Hall to strike connect with the youth and make them familiar with beautiful and invaluable past of the State.
Abdal Mehjoor also spoke on the occasion and urged for bringing Mehjoors prose into limelight.
Among others, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Prof Mehraj-u-Din, Director School Education, Kashmir, Dr Shah Faesal, besides Principal GHSS, Korthibagh, Dr Romana Qazi, Staff and students were present on the occasion.
During the programme various poets including Dr Naseem Shafai, Abdula Ahad Farhad, Ayoub Sabar besides students recited poems and threw light on the life and poetry of the Mehjoor.
