JAMMU, Apr 11: The general public continued to suffer in many areas of the Jammu region as the PHE daily rated, ITI trained and CP workers continued their strike across the Jammu province on the 29th consecutive day today.
The Government has virtually failed to resolve the issue even after one month of the agitation and the people, especially living in rural areas have been left to suffer for want of `essential supply’ as majority of the pumping and water supply stations are operated by the temporary staff. The efforts of the new Minister for PHE, I &FC Sham Choudhary to break the dead lock remained unfruitful on April 8 as the minister expressed his inability to release the pending wages of over 35 months of the PHE workers. He also told that regularization of workers was not in his hand.
A large number of workers under the leadership of Tanveer Hussain, Union president are sitting on protest dharna at PHE complex for the last 29 days. They held strong protest demonstration against Government. The PHE workers from various Divisions and Sub Divisions are sitting on protest dharna here. They have suspended entire work. The department is facing difficulty to maintain supply to the public. Even in many rural areas the people are not getting water supply after three days.
They are demanding framing of regularization policy for all daily rated, ITI trained and CP/ need base workers. They also demanded release of pending wages of the last more than thirty five months of these workers.
Tanveer Hussain and several other trade unionists also addressed the gathering and alleged that despite assurances by the former Ministers and the Chief Engineer PHE, their issues have remained un-resolved. They demanded that a policy be framed for the regularization of all type of temporary workers.
