Barbra Streisand, Barry Levinson to make musical ‘Gypsy’

LOS ANGELES, Apr 12:  Actress-fimmaler Barbara Striesand has joined hands with Barry Levinson for her long-planned screen version of the musical “Gypsy”.
After being put into turnaround at Universal, the planned screen adaptation of the classic musical has found a new home at STX Entertainment, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The 73-year-old Oscar-winning actress would play the classic stage mother Mama Rose in a new screen adaptation of the classic 1959 musical by Jule Styne, Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents.
Richard LaGravanese is writing the screen adaptation on which Streisand is also working.
Based on the 1957 memoir of the famed stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, the musical follows Mama Rose and her two young daughters, Baby June and Louise.
