Shutdown affects life in Valley

Srinagar, Apr 12: Normal life was hit as a shutdown on the call of separatists was observed in Kashmir valley today against recent attacks on Kashmiri students in various educational institutes of country.
Most of shops, commercial establishments, schools and colleges remained closed in summer capital here while public transport plied on few routes only. The banks and Government offices recorded low attendance due to non-availability of transport.
Authorities had deployed contingents of security forces including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in sensitive areas of the city to maintain law and order. Barring stone-throwing clashes in parts of Old City the situation, however, remained peaceful and there was no major incident of violence.
The call for shutdown was given by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) and Hurriyat Conference against assaults on students of Valley in several institutes of the country including at Rajasthan. Reports of shutdown were received from all other districts of the Valley.
