Constitution of Border Area Development Board demanded

JAMMU, Apr 16: Chairman, Peer Panchal People’s Welfare Forum (PPPWF), Advocate Istikhar Ali Khan, has demanded better development of the people residing along the border areas in general and of Poonch-Rajouri areas in particular.
Stating that border dwellers right from Lakhanpur to Poonch have been badly affected during Indo-Pak wars of 1947, 1965, 1971, Kargil war of 1999 and proxy war which was started in 1989 and was still continuing.
The PPPWF chairman stated that a special attention is required to be paid by the Government which could become possible with the constitution of Border Area Development Board, so that most neglected and undeveloped areas are developed by providing a special package/ funding by the Central Government which could be utilized through the medium of such Board.
He added that the Board should be constituted by the Government keeping in view various issues pertaining to the border areas which have not been solved for the last more than 60 years despite taking up of these issues with the authorities for umpteen times.
Mr Khan said the people of border areas were still deprived of the basic facilities like electricity, drinking water, road connectivity, proper education, health care institutions, Niabats, Tehsils, Sub Divisions etc.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Abdul Qayom Sheikh, Mohd Afzal, Liaqat Ali, Sufi Aslam and others.
