Govt to form Committee for preservation of Dal lake

Srinagar, Apr 16:  Government today said that a Monitoring and Oversee Committee will be formed soon to ensure preservation and protection of world famous Dal lake.
Chief Secretary, B R Sharma, today submitted before the State High Court that a committee (monitoring and oversee committee) would be constituted by issuing executive order which will be headed by him and it will ensure preservation and protection of the lake.
Sharma further assured the court that State Government will not be found lagging behind in taking all necessary steps in the light of observation made by the Court for protecting the lake.
Chief Secretary who was present before the Court as per court directions, submitted before the Division Bench of Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey that a permanent mechanism will be made for preserving the lake from encroachment and pollutants.
“The Chief Secretary submitted that earnest effort will be made by all stake holders, which include the officer of the State to protect and preserve the world famous lake”, reads the order of Division Bench.
Other officers who were accompanying the Chief Secretary include Financial Commissioner Planning, Commissioner /Secretary H&UDD, Commissioner/ Secretary Law, Commissioner/ Secretary Tourism, Secretary Resources Finance Department and SSP Vigilance.
Other officers who were directed to remain present before the Court are VC LAWDA, Director SKIMS, Member Secretary PCB, Chief Manager Centaur Hotel and Tehsildar Srinagar.
It may be mentioned that these officers were called by the Court so as to meet with the difficulties which are being faced by the concerned authorities in saving the lake from extinction.
Court after the submission of Chief Secretary said it is expected that an order from Government will be issued about the assurance made by the CS regarding protection and conservation of the Lake.
“We hope and trust that permanent mechanism will be brought into existence by issuing of Government order within two weeks time from today” court said and sought copy of that order along with latest status report from the authorities by next date of hearing.
Court also directed the concerned authorities from Central Government to render aid and support to the State authorities to preserve the lake as also bringing back its lost glory.
