Demchok people call off stir

LEH, Apr 18: Residents of Demchok, the extreme border village falling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China called off their dharna today and decided to stay put in the village following an assurance held out by Deputy Commissioner Leh, Prasanna Ramaswamy through Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nyoma Tsering Motup.
An agreement between the administration and public representatives of Demchok was reached after two meetings held on April 12 and 16.
The Deputy Commissioner, Leh has assured the people on completing power service line within one month to supply power to the people from Solar Power Plant, which has already been installed there, construction of building for newly opened Medical Aid Centre by the end of working season and renovation of irrigation canal, which will be carried out by the people themselves during coming working season.
The people living in the village along LAC with China raised slogans like ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and called off their dharna.
The people were on indefinite dharna since April 6 along the LAC at Demchok.
