JAMMU, Apr 19: After being harassed by Bakshi Nagar police and allegedly detained for about 45 minutes on the pretext of security checking last evening,  National Conference MLA  from Homshalibug, Abdul Majid Bhat has said that he will move privilege motion against State Police chief and SSP Jammu  before the Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly and also file a petition in the J&K High Court in this connection tomorrow.
Talking to media-persons here today the NC MLA, accompanied by Provincial president of  J&K National Conference for Jammu, Devender Singh Rana (MLA Nagrota)  said that his security vehicle was intercepted by a Police party in Bakshi Nagar area of Jammu city last evening around 7.15 pm on the pretext of security check. A young Police Sub Inspector asked all to come down the vehicle and give their identity. He said that a police driver, two PSOs and another elderly man of his area were sitting with him. Mr Bhat said, “I disclosed my identity and also told that these policemen in uniform and a local civilian were sitting with him. But the SI using abusive language against him and his party said that he had information that some militants were moving in this vehicle and we have to check thoroughly.  The cop asked to produce the I-cards.  This all happened despite my passing information to Police Control Room about my movement  and showing my identity being elected public representative. The cops kept me detained there for about 45 minutes illegally, even after they did not get anything objectionable from the vehicle,” the MLA alleged.
The Legislator further disclosed that he talked to DGP on phone from there about the matter and his illegal confinement and misbehavior by police men. The DGP assured to take action and claimed that he will call back. ” But after no reply, I called him again  and he told that he was busy somewhere and would respond back and the officer will apologize but no call from the DGP  came even by this evening.    I later contacted senior PDP  leader and Minister for R&B Abdul Rehman Veeri on mobile phone and he assured to take action  and respond back shortly  but he too, did not reply,” the MLA maintained.
Devender Singh Rana while strongly condemning the incident, demanded action against the erring police officer and other senior officers. He said passing adverse remarks against elected public representative is shameful on the part of policemen.  DGP should take congnizance of this indiscipline.  He said MLA has protocol, high dignity and respect in the society  and humiliate him in the public by a police Sub Inspector is highly shameful,  intolerable and  condemnable.  He said that all the NC legislators taking serious note of it will move privilege  motion against DGP, SSP Jammu and officer concerned and also file a suit in the J&K High Court tomorrow. It is unfortunate that neither  DGP, nor IGP Jammu or SSP has responded to the MLA or apologized for the act of police officer.
Senior NC leaders  Rattan Lal Gupta,  Showkat Ganai,  Aijaz Jan (YNC president),  Dharamveer Singh Jamwal and Pankaj Kohli also accompanied.
