Deferring Anantnag by-poll unfortunate move: PCC

JAMMU, Apr 21: Congress has termed the decision of deferment of by-poll as unfortunate and described it as an acceptance of defeat by the State coalition especially the PDP.
Reacting to the deferment of by-election to the Anantnag Assembly segment, which was scheduled to be held on  May 16, on the request of the State Government, PCC has said that it is an acceptance of first defeat by the State Coalition especially the PDP.
Congress has said since the PDP is aware of the ground political situation and they see their defeat as a writing on the wall, as such cited the reason of law and order situation to seek the deferment of the polls.
Congress and all other political parties had already geared for the by-election and had welcomed the holding of early elections, it is a coalition especially the PDP, which has taken the plea of law and order situation prevailing in parts of north Kashmir for few days to delay the  election on this seat  merely for political reasons.
Chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma has said that the concerned authorities for the conduct of election and everyone else knows that  the elections in the past were smoothly conducted on various occasions under most worst  conditions. He said on the one hand PDP- BJP coalition and the Central Govt claims improvement of the overall situation in the State while on the other hand, they ensured the deferment of the polls on such  grounds out of their political compulsion. After sensing it’s defeat PDP has secured the deferment of the polls, however  the defeat of PDP in these election is certain, as and when the same are held within due time, he added.
The PCC has demanded holding of election of this seat at the earliest, preferably as per the schedule already announced and urged the Election Commission of India  to review its decision of the deferment of the schedule.
