Metro to cover Butibori and Kalmeshwar area too in Nagpur: Gadkari

NAGAPUR, Apr 24:
Union Surface Transport and Shipping minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the Metro, a dream project for the Orange City would cover Butibori and Kalmeshwar areas to provide better connectivity for the people residing here.
While interacting with a section of media he said here last night that  efforts were being made to save nearly Rs 1,500 crore during the course of the construction of Nagpur Metro Rail project. He said that the issue has been discussed with the concerned authorities to chalk out the strategies. Speaking about the foreign funding for completion of the project he said that the KfW of Germany has shown keen interest for investment in the second phase of the project.
Elaborating the route of the first phase of metro the minister said that it would  run via London street, MIDC Hingna, Defence, Wadi, Variety square , Kamptee and Kanhan. In the second phase the Metro will be extended to Butibori and Kalmeshwar.
Land acquisition which was a major hurdle have been sorted out he said adding that the  77 per cent land acquisition for Metro has been done and the efforts were being made for acquiring the rest of the land.
Concerned with the increasing rate of road accident across the country, the minister said that the rate of road accidents in Nagpur was too high. Reiterating his commitment for making the city accident free he said that the local administration have been directed to map the accident-prone spots of the city.
To check the accidents he said that the roads were undergoing a massive makeover with a focus on improvement in traffic conditions. He said that increasing graph of road mishaps in the country was worrying issue as over than 1.50 lakh people die in accidents in India every year.
Exhibiting his commitment to minimize the accident rate he said serious efforts were being made to lower it at least by 50 per cent. For this he said that his ministry was locating accident prone spots like serpentine roads, blind turns and others to make the driving conditions hassle free by improving the existing facilities on  the roadways.
The ministry has identified over 2500 accident spot on the national highways, he informed Referring to official figure the minister admitted that unfortunately about 1.5 lakh people die untimely in about 5 lakh road mishaps every year and the transport ministry is working to reduce the number of fatalities.
For this he said that the road conditions were being improved, road  repairs works have been taken up  and measures were being adopted  to enhance visibility to minimise road curves to save lives. (UNI)
