SRINAGAR, Apr 24: Acting tough against drug menace, Anantnag police arrested two drug peddlers in Sangam and Bijbehara area of South Kashmir and recovered illicit liquor and codeine phosphate from their possession.
Police said that acting on Specific information, a police party of Police Post Sangam laid a naka at Sangam. During the checking one person who was carrying a bag tried to flee from the spot on being intercepted. The police party chased him and apprehended. On search 24 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his possession. The accused was later identified as Khurshid Ganaie son of Ghulam Nabi Ganaie resident of Bijbehara. A case FIR number 73/2016 under section 50 Excise Act was registered against him and investigation was taken up.
Meanwhile, a police party of Police Station Bijbehara headed by SHO Bijbehara laid a naka at Eidgah Crossing Bijbehara. During the checking one person Noor Mohammad Ganaie son of Abdul Rahim Ganaie resident of Marhama was intercepted. On search 15 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered from his possession. A case FIR number 72/2016 under Section 8/20 NDPS was registered and investigation taken up.
