SVC seeks presence of DCs, others

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU Apr 27: Taking serious note of not showing substantial progress in disposing of corruption related complaints by the officials of Revenue Department, the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) has decided to increase accountability by seeking presence of all the Deputy Commissioners and Departmental Vigilance Officers of Revenue Department before the Commission.
This decision was taken by the Commission at a meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Vigilance Commissioner here today. The meeting was convened to review the progress of the complaints, enquires and RDAs pending with different offices of Revenue Department. Apart from 91 RDAs forwarded by Vigilance Organization, there are 1831 complaints/enquiries pending with Revenue Department.
While receiving brief about the status of the cases from Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), the Commission observed that officers of Revenue Department, including Deputy Commiss-ioners are not serious in disposing of RDAs forwarded to them by Vigilance Organization besides no substantial progress was found made in disposal of complaints and enquiries pending with the department for action. The Commission noticed that the officers of the department are trying to shield their subordinates in sheer violation of J&K State Vigilance Commission Act and reaffirmed that it will pursue the pendency till action in all the enquiries is taken and charge sheets stand served to delinquent officials in RDAs by the Revenue Department.
The Commission made it clear to the officers of Revenue Department that taking help of lame excuses will not free them from their legitimate responsibilities and asked the department to reconcile the records with Vigilance Organization for early disposal of the complaints, enquiries and RDAs.
Expressing dismay over inordinate delay caused in settling complaints, enquiries and RDAs, the Commission said that negligence of the DCs will be got reflected in their APRs if they fail to act quickly on corruption related matters pending with them.
Vigilance Commissioners, Dr R K Jerth and Gous-ul-Nisa, Secretary, SVC, Addl Secretary, Revenue besides other senior officers from SVC and Revenue Department were present in the meeting.
