Create opportunities to keep youth engaged in positive way: Bhalla

JAMMU, Apr 27: Urging the Government to create opportunities to keep youth engaged in positive way and also to channelize their energy and efficiency in nation building, Bhalla said that livelihood should relate to social economy and local resources as well.
Stating that the lack of resources and avenues to engage youth in meaningful ways will always drive youth towards the miscreants in this society, former Minister and senior Congress leader said that the Government has to devise a policy about how to channelize this youth bulge constructively.
Bhalla was addressing party workers in Gandhi Nagar constituency. Expressing disappointment over handling of youth in State, Bhalla said, “Enthusiasm among today’s youth is eloping somewhere leading to frustration and lack of zeal. The prime reason is unemployment, lack of job skills and skill based job etc.” The Minister stressed for laying more emphasis on career oriented courses and there should be a connection with real life scenario rather than just bookish.
He strongly advocated that economic empowerment of women and livelihood programmes based on local resources. “The need is to formulate a national strategy that accords primacy to the Gandhian principle of ‘antodaya’ without sacrificing growth and by making instruments of State accountable for good governance”, he said.
Asking the youth to play their positive role, Bhalla said that religion and culture play an important role in social cohesion and appealed the youth to respect their elders and particularly females. He said women are key to good governance and their increasing representation in democratic institutions has provided stability to Indian polity.
Bhalla further commenting said that handling sensitive issues with an assessment of future impact is always advantageous, however, even more important is decision-making and intervention well before an issue reaches a crescendo.
