JAMMU, Apr 30: Continuing with their efforts to give relief to parents of school going children who are being fleeced by restrictive & unethical trade practices adopted by book sellers in nexus with school authorities, officers of Legal Metrology Department have tightened their grip to curb unfair selling of school books and uniforms to students.
Seven book sellers were booked for indulging in unfair trade practices, out of which 5 cases were compounded with the assurance to rectify the errors. Rs 51000 fine was imposed & and recovered. Two publishers were sent notice to show cause why legal proceedings may not be initiated against them for omission.
According to Manoj Prabhakar, Dy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement, regular checking has been conducted to keep Hawks eye on such restrictive practices. Book sellers have been warned not to restrict parents to buy any irrational item without their will. Schools have been approached not to allow book sellers to use any un warranted publication which force the parents to loose their hard earned money.
