SAMBA, May 2: The irate people of Ghagwal and adjoining areas today staged a protest demonstration in front of SDM Office against the non payment of wages to the labourers who worked on various schemes constructed under MNREGA in the area.
The protestors said that they have not been paid wages for the works constructed over three months back and they feel cheated through the hands of the department.
The protestors raising slogans against the authorities warned to intensify the agitation in case the wages were not released to them at an earliest. They alleged that the scheme has no fun when the labourers working under it are not paid the wages for months together. The protestors including sizable number of women said that authorities have played a fraud with them and demanded that the wages be paid within days failing which they will be forced to intensify the agitation and also block the National Highway.
The protestors said that some of the labourers are at the verge of starvation as they could not get the wages to feed themselves.
The protest was organized by Ghagwal Action Committee led by Chuni Lal Sharma. The people from Ghagwal and adjoining areas participated in the protest. The protestors while criticizing the authorities said when the huge package was released by Union Government why the coffers are dry in the State and why the poor laborers are denied their earned wages.
