SRINAGAR, May 3: Army today said that it has not molested the minor girl in Handwara in North Kashmir that led to widespread protests and killing of 5 persons in alleged security forces’ firing last month. It has also denied its involvement in the release of video statement of Handwara girl in which she had said that the Army didn’t molest her.
In reply to the contentions raised in the writ petition filed by the mother of minor girl, Army through its Adjutant Major K S Suresh vehemently denied the allegations raised in the petition that it (Army) has made viral the video of the minor girl.
“The Army was no where involved in the video-graphy or procuring any statement from the girl. Army in no way was even remotely concerned with the recording of the video”, says Major Suresh in its reply filed on behalf of Ministry of Defense, New Delhi and General Officer Commanding 15 Corps Badami Bagh, Srinagar.
“It is further submitted that a rumor was spread in Handwara Town by the anti-national elements that a minor girl has been molested by an Army person, which led to attack on the three Army posts located in the town and setting on fire one of the posts”, reply says.
There are two PIL before the High Court regarding the alleged molestation of Handwara girl, her detention and other related issues and they have been clubbed by the court.
Petitioner (mother of minor girl) seeks direction from the court that her daughter and other relatives who are in police custody be brought before the court immediately.
She further prays that Director General of Police be directed to order for registering of FIR against SP and SHO Handwara for the illegal arrest and detention of her minor daughter and other relatives and speedy and fair investigation be carried out into the matter.
